Béla Kéler Park
Bardejovské Kúpele, Slovensko
Until 2021, a disused fountain that had long lost its original purpose stood in front of the Trade and Services Centre in Bardejovské Kúpele. In the following years, however, this unused space underwent a remarkable transformation.
Between 2022 and 2023, the company Bardejovské Kúpele, revitalized the site. Based on an architectural design by Peter Demčko, a new park was created and dedicated to Bardejov's most famous native and a prominent figure in the spa's history—composer, conductor, and violinist Béla Kéler.
The park features an original musical bench and a commemorative plaque, crafted in collaboration with artist blacksmith František Sarvaš. The selection of ten Kéler compositions played at the bench, as well as the accompanying text, was prepared by the Béla Kéler Society. The park was officially opened on June 27, 2023, and today offers visitors a pleasant place for relaxation and a quiet tribute to the rich musical heritage of Bardejovské Kúpele.
Béla Kéler had a special connection to Bardejovské Kúpele. In 1850, he inherited his parents' house here, to which he fondly returned from his extensive concert tours across Europe. Since he spent most of the year working abroad, he rented the house to spa guests during his absence. In its garden sprang the Anna mineral spring, whose water was bottled and exported to numerous countries worldwide.
